Agadir Oufella at a glance
The Kasbah of Agadir Oufella sits on the hill above the modern city. It holds the historical remains of old Agadir, which was struck by an earthquake on 29 February 1960. Today the hill is both a viewpoint over the bay and a place of remembrance. The walls have been restored, and you pay an entrance fee for the area inside.
Two things are easy to mix up. The entrance ticket covers the Kasbah itself. The cable car is a separate service with its own ticket, so the fare for the ride is not included in the entry price.

The 1960 earthquake and what you see today
The earthquake of 29 February 1960 destroyed much of the old city. Accounts commonly give about 15,000 victims, and the city itself describes about 15,000 people buried under the rubble. These are historical figures, not an exact count. The new Agadir was built south of the old districts, which is why the modern city and the ruins on the hill look so different.
The Kasbah is no longer an untouched ruin. It was restored as part of a city development program, and tickets are sold on site and digitally. Inside, expect restored walls, stone buildings and wide views of the bay and the harbor.
Treat it as a memorial. The visitor code of conduct asks for calm, respectful behavior and suitable clothing, and it warns against unofficial guides and sellers. If someone offers a tour at the foot of the hill, you can decline politely and book the audio guide or a guided tour from the Kasbah itself instead.

Getting up the hill
There is no single way. Choose by how much energy and time you have.
On foot
Walking is the plainest option and lets you take in the slope and the views as you climb. Bring water and sun protection, and avoid the middle of the day in summer.
Cable car
The lower station is at Pont Tildi, Rue Echouhada, Cité Suisse. The ride takes a few minutes. Tickets are sold at the counter, so check whether online booking is available before you rely on it.
Bus or taxi shuttle
A bus or taxi shuttle serves the hill, and there is a car park halfway up. Do not expect to drive private cars right up to the entrance gate.
Cable car fares
Fares appear in two price sets on the operator's pages, so confirm the amount at the ticket office. The ranges below show what has been published in 2026.
| Ticket | Return | One way |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | 105 to 140 MAD | 85 to 100 MAD |

Evening closing times differ by season and during Ramadan, so ask at the lower station when the last ride down leaves.
The view and what is nearby
From the top you look over the long curve of the beach, the harbor and the new city. Late afternoon is a good time if you want the light on the water, and after dark the lights of the Corniche are visible from the hill. If you stay until evening, check the closing time first.
There is no museum inside the Kasbah. The Musée de la Reconstruction is in the city, in the former Bank Al-Maghrib building on Avenue Général Kettani. It opened in February 2025 and shows historic photographs, films and documents about the earthquake and the rebuilding. Opening hours are 10:00 to 18:00, closed on Tuesday. Entry is 50 MAD for foreign visitors (2026).
For the beach below, read the Agadir beach guide. For a market day, see Souk El Had.
